As I started writing this blog post, I quickly realized that Vancouver Island deserves more than just a single article. Visiting Vancouver Island was one of the most beautiful travel experiences of my life. It gave me serious West Coast USA vibes, but without the crowds, commercial feel, or frantic pace. It’s wild, peaceful, and grounded. This is a trip I’ll remember forever.
Tips for Planning Your Vancouver Island Road Trip
Before you start planning your own adventure, keep this in mind: Vancouver Island looks small on a map, but don’t underestimate it. The terrain is rugged, the roads are winding, and the weather can change dramatically from one coastline to the next.
If you’re planning to car camp on Vancouver Island, I highly recommend letting the weather dictate your route. This is a coastal rainforest after all. The island is compact enough that you can easily change plans on the fly. If it’s raining on the west side, head east—or vice versa. Don’t be afraid to double back. Following the sun was the best decision we made.
